The future of the Beach Boys’ comeback tour is in limbo as the band has canceled yet another show.
After calling off all of their planned concerts over the past three months, the iconic Sixties group was supposed to return to the stage October 9 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois.
However, the venue announced Tuesday that the show was “canceled due to unforeseen circumstances” — which were the exact words used when the band pulled the plug on their September dates.
The reason behind the series of nearly 30 cancelations and postponements remains a mystery. The Independent has contacted the Beach Boys for comment.
Although the band played at a private event in California this week, the group’s last public show was July 18 in Valdosta, Georgia.

Days after the performance, the band announced they were postponing dozens of their planned tour dates so that 85-year-old frontman and original Beach Boy Mike Love would have time to “recharge.”

“Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year – especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds,” a statement from the band shared to Love’s Instagram page said at the time. “We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September.”
A month later, the group said they were pushing back the shows until late September to give Love more time to rest. But when September came, the four planned concerts were canceled with no explanation.

Previously, the band had delayed a series of shows in June while Love dealt with illness on their European tour. He wrote to fans at the time: “Losing my sister, Maureen, on the first anniversary of cousin Brian’s death, combined with my ongoing recovery from what started out as bronchitis, followed by COVID, has taken both an emotional and physical toll on me.”
“I feel stronger every day physically, but I am heartbroken emotionally,” he said.
The Beach Boys have played more than 40 shows this year on their tour celebrating the 60th anniversary of their legendary album Pet Sounds, which included hit tracks like “God Only Knows” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”
For now, the band’s next scheduled shows are set for October 10 at Cincinnati’s PNC Pavilion and October 11 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
