The upcoming S.W.A.T. spinoff, S.W.A.T. Exiles, has been renewed for season 2 more than a month before its premiere, star Shemar Moore announced on Monday, Aug. 10.
The series, which sees Moore reprise hisrole as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, is set to launch at the end of September, over a year after S.W.A.T. was canceled at CBS in March 2025. In a video posted on Instagram on Monday, Moore shared the news with fans while in costume as the LAPD Sergeant.
“I got such great news. S.W.A.T. Exiles just got picked up for season two, baby,” Moore, 56, said in the video.
“We start shooting in a couple of months, but first, mark your calendars! Because season 1 is coming September 25th, exclusively on STARZ,” the actor said. “Let’s get it.”
Production on the spinoff began in October 2025. The ten-episode series will see S.W.A.T. alums Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit return as Sergeant David ‘Deacon’ Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. Several newcomers will also join Hondo’s team. Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein are among the series regulars.

It’s also possible that other familiar faces from the world of S.W.A.T. will make appearances in the spinoff. “There is a S.W.A.T. family and that family is important. We would love to have other family members involved in some way,” Keith LeGoy, chairman of Sony Pictures Television, said last year, per Deadline. “Whether it’s all of them all of the time, some of them some of the time, or something in between. That’s something that we are still figuring out.”

S.W.A.T. Exiles picks up “after a high-profile mission goes sideways,” per its official synopsis. Moore’s character is “pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance, experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.”
“Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is,” the synopsis continues.
S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres Sept. 25 on STARZ.
