Scrubs Season 2 Episode 3, titled My Ex's Ex, aired on ABC on October 7. As the title suggests, the latest episode of the platform's medical sitcom saw the return of Scott Foley's marine biologist Sean Kelly, Elliot's (Sarah Chalke) ex-boyfriend, who bumped into J.D. (Zach Braff) while he was on a date with his new girlfriend, Charlie (Rachel Bilson), at the aquarium.
The latest episode of the Scrubs revival not only reintroduced Sean into the world of Sacred Heart Hospital but also saw J.D. reunite Sean with his ex-girlfriend, Elliot. One can only imagine how J.D.'s meddling in his ex's love life would have added chaos to Episode 3.
For the uninitiated, Sean was a recurring character during the initial seasons of the original series. According to TV Line, Foley's final appearance as Sean was in Season 8, where it was revealed that he was dating Dr. Kim Briggs, J.D.'s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son, Sam.

J.D. met Sean in Scrubs Season 2 Episode 3
Scrubs Season 2 Episode 3 revealed that J.D.'s dating life with Charlie was going well. The two were enjoying a date at the aquarium when J.D. spotted Sean swimming in a tank filled with sharks. Elliot's ex-boyfriend filled J.D. in on his previous gig. After an awkward encounter with his ex's ex, J.D. revealed to Charlie that Sean was Elliot's ex-boyfriend. Since J.D. sabotaged their relationship, he felt guilty about ruining Sean's life.
Elsewhere, after Elliot's split with J.D., she had started dating a pilot in Season 2. While Carla had already disapproved of Elliot's new boyfriend, Elliot finally broke up with him after he threw a fit about the right shade of black in his socks.

Sean returned to Sacred Heart in Scrubs Season 2 Episode 3
According to Decider, with Elliot back on the market, Carla was desperate to set her friend up and even suggested a doctor who worked at a nearby hospital.
However, Elliot wanted to take a break from dating:
“No, it took me forever to get it together after the divorce. Look, I just want to focus on taking the next big step in my career without getting distracted by a bunch of—”
This was the moment when J.D. brought Sean to Sacred Heart in Scrubs Season 2 Episode 3, in hopes of reigniting a romance between Elliot and the marine biologist. J.D. made a huge spectacle, mimicking the sounds of an angel choir as he reunited Sean with Elliot. It was suggested the two might rekindle their relationship as Elliot was seen on a coffee date with Sean in the hospital's cafeteria.
Speaking with TV Line about Sean's return inScrubs Season 2, Foley teased that there are unresolved feelings between the couple, which might be explored in the upcoming episodes:
"I think there’s some sort of unresolved emotional feelings there, and whatever has happened relationship-wise to Sean since he last saw Elliot, they both seem to be in a similar place in their lives with regards to relationships.”
