Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been cautioned that matters could turn "ugly" between their camp and Buckingham Palace once Prince William ascends to the throne following his father.

A source revealed to Daily Expresso host JJ Anisiobi that the Prince of Wales was "instrumental" in issuing a letter characterizing Harry and Meghan as "private citizens" on the King's orders following their return to Britain.

"He's taken it as a big win and it's given him hope that his father might finally be seeing this more clearly," the source added. "William is not going to stop pushing until the King agrees to take away their titles." This comes as Harry and William show no signs of stopping.

Commentator Mark Dolan suggested William would likely strip the titles himself should his father fail to act, cautioning that such a move would further widen the rift between the Sussexes and the Palace.

"Harry and Meghan will weaponise any attempts to strip them of their titles because their whole grift is that they are victims," he continued. "But as long as they are Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they can pretend to be royal, and that's a problem for the family and it's a problem for the monarchy.

"I don't think Charles will strip the titles," Mr. Dolan stated. "I think William will, and it's going to be ugly."

Harry and William are believed to be estranged following the duke and duchess's bitter departure from the Firm in 2020, after which they directed numerous allegations toward senior members of the Royal Family.

Harry portrayed a severely damaged relationship with his elder brother in his memoir Spare, detailing a 2019 confrontation when he claimed William grabbed him by the collar and knocked him into a dog bowl.

The duke and duchess, who relocated back to the UK just over a month ago, are still awaiting confirmation on whether they will be granted taxpayer-funded security.

They withdrew children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, from their preferred British school in September after only two days when congested traffic in the vicinity meant their private security detail had difficulty maintaining a convoy during the school run.

Tensions also seemed to escalate between the two sides following the publication of Earl Spencer's memoir about his sister Princess Diana this month, which contained bombshell allegations about the King, including that he remarked "we'll forget her soon enough" following his ex-wife's death.

The Earl stated Harry was "completely fine" with the book, while William was reportedly "furious", perceiving it as a "betrayal" of the commitment his uncle made to always safeguard William and Harry at Diana's funeral in 1997.
