Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos teased hopeful audiences as he complimented director David Fincher’s defunct psychological crime thriller series, Mindhunter.
“Mindhunter” debuted in 2017 on Netflix and received critical acclaim. A second season was then released in 2019 to universal acclaim, but in 2020, the third season of Mindhunter was put on an indefinite hold. Fincher, who effectively served as showrunner, stated he was “very proud” of the show’s first two seasons, but that production was “expensive.” He added that the series “didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment” in the eyes of the streaming giant.
However, Sarandos, when recently asked about a regret concerning Netflix’s sequels, stated that he wished “we got to make” a third season of Mindhunter. This comes as one Netflix thriller has viewers staying up watching until the early hours of the morning.

Speaking about the halting of Mindhunter, Fincher said, "I don't blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do [his 2020 film] Mank the way I wanted to do it and they allowed me to venture down new paths with [his 2023 film] The Killer.” He also noted that “you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs."

“It's a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness,” he continued, “The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways."

“We lived there for almost three years,” said Fincher of “Mindhunter,” “Not year in and year out, but … probably six or seven months a year.”

Fincher is known for directing films like “Fight Club” and “The Social Network.” He has partnered with Netflix for several releases. He served as an executive producer and director for the platform’s critically acclaimed series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey.
His next work is a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Brad Pitt will reprise his role as Cliff Booth in “The Adventures of Cliff Booth.” The movie will run in theaters for two weeks before finding its home on Netflix.
