Keri Russell explained why she and Matthew Rhys will never get married.
The actress detailed their relationship during a recent appearance on the Dear Chelsea podcast.
Russell and Rhys have been together since 2013.
Donât expect Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys to ever walk down the aisle.
âI love that you also are not married,â Chelsea Handler told Russell during the Thursday episode of her Dear Chelsea podcast. The actress replied, âI love it too. It is fun.â
As for why she doesnât want to get married? Russellâs answer is simple: âIâve had a big party. I get to dress up all the time.â However, she does understand that âmarriage is something differentâ for others â and she respects that.
âPeople used to have to be married to have a credit card. We can have credit cards now,â Russell added. âI donât need my last name to go away. Iâm cool. If you wanna be here, be here. If you donât, thatâs cool too.â
Both Handler and Russell agreed that âitâs sexierâ to be in a long-term relationship.
âP.S., we have kids. So, like, thatâs forever,â Russell added. âTo me, [marriage] is antiquated.â

Russell and Rhysâ relationship made headlines last month after the Widowâs Bay star omitted his partnerâs name from his acceptance speeches during the 2026 Emmys. That night, Rhys made history for winning both Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me, as well as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widowâs Bay.
âI looked at him like a few days before, and I said, âOkay, well, can you articulate what youâre most nervous about?ââ Russell said on Dear Chelsea, setting the record straight on why Rhys didnât thank her.
Rhys told Russell he was nervous about âhaving to speakâ if accepting awards. She responded with: âTake me off your plate. Like, you donât have to thank me. I know you love me.â

Russell explained that there really is a lot of pressure when it comes to acceptance speeches, because people get upset if theyâre excluded. Rhys, in particular, still hears some complaints about his 2018 win for The Americans.
âPeople still give him a hard time because he didnât say their name,â she explained. âLike, itâs so crazy. People get nuts. Itâs stupid and itâs also lame.â
