John Harbaugh defends Terrion Arnold decision as arrested star spotted in Hard Knocks

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh defended the team’s decision to host free agent cornerback Terrion Arnold on a visit.
Arnold was released by the Detroit Lions in late June after he was arrested on eight felony charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping, stemming from an alleged incident in Florida in Feb. 2026.
The 23-year-old was released from custody after posting a $1 million bond and is now in the process of visiting several NFL teams during training camp, including the Giants and defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Harbaugh, who is entering his first season as New York’s head coach following 18 years with the Baltimore Ravens, explained why the team hosted Arnold in the facility despite his criminal charges.

"Because we want to be aggressive in every way, whatever we can do, find everything out we can about any situation, player, that can help us be better… I would say that's it," Harbaugh told reporters Wednesday.
"We're looking for players that can help us all the time. And he's a player that can help us."
Harbaugh went on to say that the organization has done the necessary legwork on Arnold’s criminal case, which remains ongoing.

"Now, I know your next question… is going to be, you know, his circumstances. And that's something that also the organization has studied very deeply, you know, I've got an overview of it. The organization has looked at it in depth,” Harbaugh said.

"It's more than just what you read in the papers, though. I mean, you got to find out exactly where everything stands. And I think I do know that our people do a great job of that."
Arnold, a former first-round draft pick by Detroit in 2024, had an arraignment hearing on Thursday, one day after his reported visit with the Giants. His next court date reportedly is scheduled for Oct. 5, which comes one day after the Giants host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4 of the NFL regular season.
Arnold has also visited the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and Seahawks, the last of which was documented on HBO television series Hard Knocks, which is following the defending Super Bowl champions during training camp.

In the episode, Arnold is shown working out in front of Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald, and the two later share a brief embrace.
A separate clip showed Seahawks general manager John Schneider talking with Macdonald about Arnold. Schneider said he asked Seattle backup quarterback Jalen Milroe, Arnold’s former college teammate at Alabama, about him, and he spoke highly of the free agent cornerback.
It remains to be seen whether the Giants, Seahawks or another team feels comfortable enough with Arnold’s current circumstances to offer him a contract.
