Iconic Star Wars actor Billy Dee Williams, 89, seen with crutches on frail rare outing

Billy Dee Williams has been seen on an ultra-rare outing.

The 89-year-old actor, who is known worldwide for portraying the suave, roguish smuggler Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars franchise.

Beyond that legendary role, he is celebrated for playing football star Gale Sayers in the acclaimed 1971 TV movie Brian's Song and for his lead roles in 1970s Black cinema classics like Lady Sings the Blues. However, it seems the acting icon is taking things a little slower in his latter years.

Billy Dee Williams was spotted leaving a lunch outing, where he was assisted with a walker as he departed the venue and made his way from the restaurant in Beverly Hills.

For his super rare outing, Billy rocked a pair of white pants, with a khaki long coat and a bright green hat.

He looked extremely frail compared to how fans would remember him in his famed Hollywood roles.

It comes several weeks after taking part in a question-and-answer session for Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. He looked ever so dapper in a black two-piece suit, with a red shirt and loafers.

In a joint post, Billy and the Academy Museum took to Instagram to announce, "Smoothest man in the galaxy. Check out a few photos of legendary actor Billy Dee Williams in person at our screening for STAR WARS: EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

In February 2024, the Batman actor released a memoir titled What Have We Here? Portraits of a Life. He appeared on The View that month and reflected on his long-spanning career, including his portrayal of the late NFL player Gale Sayers in the 1971 television film Brian's Song, which earned him an Emmy nomination and helped catapult his career.

"It was a very special experience. I always say it was an act of love, the whole experience," he shared, adding, "You know it's one of those moments when everything comes together. It's rare, but that was one of those moments."

The actor, who turned 89 this April, will also recently reprised the role that launched him into popular culture as the gambler-turned-General from 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return Of The Jedi'.

Casting announcements for 'Episode IX' have picked up in the past couple of days, as The Americans star Keri Russell is understood to be in final negotiations to star in an unspecified role.
