Who's afraid of a little old trademark?
A bedding company that hoped to register "Swift Home" abandoned its federal trademark application after facing opposition from Taylor Swift.
Cathay Home Inc., a Manhattan-based home goods company, elected not to pursue the registration following pressure from Swift's company, TAS Rights Management LLC.
In a filing Feb. 11 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Swift's team argued that the cursive "Swift" in Cathay's proposed logo closely resembled the singer's trademarked signature and could mislead consumers into believing she endorsed the brand's bedding products.

"Our client has not used the disputed mark in commerce," Cathay attorney Ting Geng told Reuters on Feb. 13. "After evaluating the circumstances, our client elected not to pursue registration of a mark it did not consider essential to its business."
Geng also told Reuters that Cathay previously signed a coexistence agreement with Swift over a separate "Swift Home" trademark that was not at issue in this dispute.
Cathay's website says its bedding products are sold through major retailers including Bed Bath & Beyond, Target and Nordstrom. The company had applied last year to register "Swift Home" for decorative pillows, mattresses, sheets and comforters. Swift's opposition, filed with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, argued that she owns federal trademarks covering her name for products including bed linens and clothing, and that Cathay's stylized script — featuring a swooping "S" and wing-like lines from the "t" — could create consumer confusion.
The 14-time Grammy winner, whose record-breaking Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, maintains more than 175 live trademarks as part of her expansive intellectual property portfolio.
