In a clip from the panel discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 17, Hawke said, "The last place you probably want to look for advice in your spiritual counsel is a bunch of jet-lagged, drunk artists talking about their film."

However, he insisted, "Anything that fights fascism, I’m all for it."

During the same panel discussion, Hawke was asked another similar question about actors being criticized for speaking out, a question that came from one reporter who referenced the open letter signed by over 80 names condemning the Berlin Film Festival for its "silence" on Gaza, as reported by Variety.

Hawke answered by sharing that the last time he spoke about politics publicly, he "was really shocked with how much animosity it was met with," and how many seem to believe that "actors shouldn't talk about politics."

Instead, Hawke insisted, "Everybody should be [taking about politics]. We're all citizens of the world, and all of us matter. And all of us have a voice."

Stressing that he and other actors aren't ever trying to tell anyone "what to do," Hawke claimed that he and other vocal celebrities are often just sharing their opinions, as is their right.

"Everybody's welcome to disagree," he added.
