Night Moves explores going out through the lens of beauty. Here, discover how your favorite stars get ready to paint the town red, including what music they’re playing to set the mood, the essentials decorating their vanity, and which must-have products are taking up precious real estate in their evening bag.

What does your perfect night out look like?

Oh, man. A night in. A martini in bed.

What do you like to listen to while getting ready?

It depends on my mood, really, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Turnstile. I really love that band a lot. It really depends. Sometimes I go old school, like Paul Simon, Dennis Wilson, Bob Dylan. I like a playlist.

Beauty vibe in three words?

Hydrated, natural, and romantic.

How do you pick a look?

Depends on how I feel in my body, really, and where I’m going, and what I have. If I’m at home, it’s pretty easy to put something together, but lately it’s just been a lot of silky skirts or silky blouses or tanks. And then my go-to pant is The Row Gala pant, or a good pair of Levi’s, and a flat shoe. I don’t really go out unless I’m working. So going out is going over to my friend’s house.

I really like the Magic Molecule Mist; it just sort of cleans and balances your skin, and it’s a nice antimicrobial spray. And always lip balm, always eye drops. For lips, I like Tower 28 and Laneige—and Valentino makes a very good sheer tinted lip balm. If I’m doing my makeup, I don’t really wear a lot. I like Westman Atelier makeup. I like clean makeup just because it feels nice to put on your face. And I do a tinted sunscreen, and honestly, whatever [my makeup artist] Georgie has left in my house. That’s what I use.

For my hair, I always do my fringe myself. I try to not cut them myself, but I do. I always blow-dry them myself. It’s a very specific thing. If I need to, I’ll wash just my bangs.

What makeup/hair essentials do you tote around in your evening bag?

My credit card, eye drops, lip balm—and I always carry a scent with me, so I carry Vendetta in my bag now.

What fragrance do you spritz on before you run out the door?

I love that it’s genuinely a really, really sexy, essential, warm, sophisticated scent, and it layers and settles well. It’s not overpowering; it floats through the air. People love it.

What’s your skincare/pre-bedtime routine when you get home?

The minute I get home, I turn on the tea kettle and run the bath. I wash my face. I’ll always use an oil cleanser, like the Tatcha Camelia Oil, to just get all the makeup off because I don’t want to use 900 things. And then I’ll do a vitamin C serum and then probably two different moisturizers. I always put Weleda Skin Food on last. Then I drink tea in the bath and go to bed.
