NBC medical drama series, Chicago Med Season 12 premiered with the season opener titled Shots Fired. The series picks up three months after the events of the Season 11 finale. Previously, we saw Asher give birth to her daughter, Mabel, in a hospital lockdown situation. Archer confessed his feelings for Asher. Elsewhere, Charles got back his position; however, Miranda accused Sharon of leaking Dr. Theo Rabari's medical papers, leaving her job in jeopardy.
Chicago Med Season 12 begins with Mallory Sloan taking over Goodwin's position as the hospital administrator. Elsewhere, several injured people arrive at Gaffney following a shooting at a wedding.
Apart from the known faces, the episode also includes guest stars. Beverly Hills alum Gabrielle Carteris plays Birdie Sutherland, the groom's mother, in Chicago Med Season 12 Episode 1. Among the other guest stars are Scarlett Spears, Jimi Stanton, Baize Buzan, and Michael Alix, to name a few.

Oliver Platt reprises his role as Dr. Daniel Charles, the Chief of Psychiatry at Gaffney Chicago Medical Centre. Previously, we saw he was able to get his position back after someone leaked Theo Rabari's medical files. In the season premiere, Charles offers to help the medical professional at the ED. He also offers some good advice to the groom, Dexter, after he confessed to having second thoughts before the wedding.

Steven Weber reprises his role as Dr. Dean Archer. In the premiere episode, Asher and her daughter Mabel pay a visit to Archer in the hospital. Archer asks for Asher's help to deal with Tamar's sensitive health condition.

Jessy Schram plays Dr. Hannah Asher in Chicago Med Season 12. She visits the hospital with her daughter, Mabel, and brings food for Archer. Asher tries to convince her colleagues that they are simply co-parenting Mabel, but they can clearly sense a spark between the two. Asher helps Tamar, and after a few hiccups, the surgery is a success, and Tamar's baby is safe. In the end, Asher tells Archer that she will take maternity leave for a few weeks before resuming work.

Darren Barnet reprises his role as Dr. John Frost in Chicago Med. Frost helps an eight-year-old girl, Dakota. Her eyes were covered with bandages, and she complained of losing her sight. Frost and Dr. Abrams ordered some tests and found out it was due to a trauma response. Bruno, the wedding musician who brought her to the hospital, encouraged her throughout her treatment, and she was able to recover. Unfortunately, Bruno was hit by a car and died.

S. Epatha Merkerson plays Sharon Goodwin in the NBC medical series. Goodwin's position was in jeopardy after Miranda accused her of leaking Dr. Theo Rabari's private medical files. However, Goodwin said that she was innocent. At the end of the episode, Nurse Doris revealed that she had leaked Rabari's files.

In the premiere episode, we see Sloan struggling to balance the emergency cases and the shortage of staff due to budget cuts. When Archer asks for more staff members, Sloan refuses. Breeds is known for her roles in Clarice, The Originals, and Slam.
Gabrielle Carteris (90210 and Beverly Hills) plays Birdie Sutherland, the groom's mother, in Chicago Med Season 12 Episode 1. Scarlett Spears (Middlehood and Wicked: For Good) plays the eight-year-old patient Dakota Cross. Jimi Stanton plays Dexter Sutherland, the groom. Stanton is known for his roles in The Rookie, Blue Bloods, and The Punisher.
Baize Buzan guest stars as Tamar, the bride-to-be who gets critically injured during the shooting at her wedding. Michael Alix plays Bruno, the wedding musician who brought Dakota to the hospital. Alix is known for projects like The Pitt, Tires, You, and Paper Tiger. John Ahle Kellar appears as Henry Cyrus Murphy, Tamar's ex-boyfriend, who is responsible for the shooting at her wedding.
