His widow, Kelly Rizzo, has spoken extensively about the process of grieving the late actor in an effort to create community among people grappling with the loss of a loved one
Ahead of the 5th anniversary of Saget’s death, Rizzo reflected on some of the ways grief has changed her life
Kelly Rizzo is learning more about grief as she continues to mourn her late husband.
The Comfort Food podcaster, 47, shared a list of “weird things about grief” that she’s noticed since Bob Saget’s unexpected death, nearly five years ago. On Jan. 9, 2022, Saget died at age 65 from head trauma.
Sharing photos of herself and Saget from their six-year relationship, Rizzo wrote, “I’m still coming to terms with the fact that there will never be another new photo of him. I still feel guilty for feeling happy.”
“Sometimes you catch yourself judging someone else’s grief. Which of course is off limits! (I heard about somebody dating again after two months, and I immediately thought, ‘that’s too soon!’ Then I feel bad for judging),” she continued.
Rizzo’s list also included how crying “still shows up at the weirdest times,” how she sometimes feels like her grief is less significant because they had just six years together and the urge to talk about them because “you still don’t want them to be forgotten.”
In the slides, Rizzo also revealed, “I didn’t dream about Bob really for years, and I had my first significant dream about him just this year.” She also noted that despite the time that has passed, “Your life is still divided into before and after. BBD and ABD (Before Bob Died and After Bob Died).”
She concluded, “Small talk is still unbearable. You don’t have time for surface-level stuff anymore.”

In the caption, Rizzo wrote, “Grief morphs and changes forms and evolves over time. It’s always still there. It just has different personalities from month to month and year to year. What else would you add to this list ??”
In the comments, fellow widow Amanda Kloots, who experienced the death of husband Nick Cordero at the height of the pandemic in July 2020, wrote a simple, “Oh, the before and after.”

Two years after Saget’s death, Rizzo went public with a new relationship with actor Breckin Meyer.
Meyer, she told E! News, has been “so supportive” amid her continued grief. “Since day one, that’s just been such a big thing with him. He knew what I went through, and he appreciated it and accepted it — and always likes to talk about Bob,” Rizzo said.
“It’s never like, ‘Oh, I don’t wanna mention Bob. I don’t want Breckin to feel bad about that.’ He’s just always been so kind about it. It’s been really special. It’s really nice that I’ve been able to move forward with him.”
